First. Full disclosure. We're not climate scientists.
And when we started Carbon Farmer in 2007 some people thought we were crazy.
At that time most folks had never heard of carbon credits and many were just learning about climate change or global warming for the first time. Unfortunately, using the term global warming set the stage for a bit of public perception problem.
Where was Arlene Dickinson when the scientists needed her?
Though the trend is technically a warming climate, in part from human induced or anthropogenic sources, in hindsight, global warming was probably a really bad choice of words.
It meant people, including the parents of our co-founder Brad Rabiey, were quick to point out any random cold day of the year on the family farm as "evidence" that the whole theory was flawed.
Sorry for the unapproved unflattering mention Mom and Dad.
Of course it will never be "warm" every day. Especially in our home country of Canada where toques are a national icon. But that doesn't mean we aren't in trouble. Small changes in average temperature (and the extremes in weather now forecast by climate models) wreak havoc on everything from sea levels, to food-security, to the strength of storms.
But don't trust us. Or the various special interest groups out there. Check out what NASA has to say about climate change.
