Held Jointly by CSCE, ITE and the University of Alberta
This jointly held Symposium proved that you can hold a special event without sacrificing the environment or breaking your budget by partnering with us to find their carbon balance.
The Organizing Committee worked with us to ensure that the event's footprint was minimized before offsets were purchased. This included having the event supplied with 100% renewable electricity.
Committee member Tyler Golly, M.Sc., P.Eng. noted, that "The Carbon Farmer provided us with the highest level of support and service to ensure that we not only understood the environmental impacts that our event was going to have but also recommended strategies we could use to first minimize our impacts and second offset the impacts that could not be avoided."
Ultimately, the event only needed to offset two tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions related to meals, event facilities, and speaker travel and accommodations. So, for a minimal cost, the Symposium was able to hold an event that was consistent with the message of sustainability it delivered to those in attendance.
As a result of our very successful partnership, Tyler described us as "A great partner for any event, organization, or individual interested in minimizing their carbon footprint."
The Symposium held jointly by The Canadian Society for Civil Engineering – Edmonton (CSCE), the Institute of Transportation Engineers – Northern Alberta (ITE) and the University of Alberta – Transportation Engineering & Planning Group occurred on March 12-13, 2009, at the Matrix Hotel in Edmonton, Alberta. The symposium was for transportation professionals including engineers, planners, and technicians, and new professionals and students in particular. It provided a foundation for understanding key issues as they relate to sustainability and transportation with the speakers addressing the following topics as they relate to sustainable transportation: strategic vision; economics; social perspective; policy; design guidelines; business perspectives; practical strategies and case studies.
